It has been amazing. I graduated from drama school and went straight into the National so I was incredibly lucky for a young actor and it lived up to every expectation I had of it. It’s my first professional production and they were incredibly nurturing and supportive and it is a tough and nerve wracking first role to be landed with, but they were so supportive and encouraging. "There’s a speech near the top [of Season 4] that Jon makes that is all about having been away and how it all feels like a dream, and I think that’s how it felt for me, really. I had come back after two years away filming different bits to the original set that we were on in season one, and it felt very interesting. So much has changed in me, and so much has changed in him over that time."

"I’m a bit of a slave to technology. I always have my iPad and my laptop. Other than that, I have a few kind of lucky mascots. I’ve got a lucky pen—it’s one I’ve had since I was a kid, and I carry it everywhere. And I haven’t lost it yet, I’ve lost everything else. I’m kind of OCD, actually. Every time I get on a plane I have to touch the outside of the plane three times before I get in.”

Some of the actors who are playing smaller roles in the show initially came to our attention because they read for the part of Jon Snow. We looked at many people, and Kit Harington really, really stood out. He was one of the strong contenders, right from the first. He had a great look for the character. His performance was wonderful. Prior to that, his biggest thing was the British stage play called War Horse, which I believe has just come to Broadway as well. He was very acclaimed in that, and we knew about that. He was a fabulous find for us. - George R.R. Martin
